My Easter outfit was such a fun make! I used two of my TNT patterns, Butterick 6531 and Simplicity 8609, and borrowed the sleeve from McCalls 5576 (all oop). Below are a few sewing notes.
Sweater Knit T-shirt
1. I prewashed the fabric on a cold cycle with a cold rinse and dried it on permanent press. For future care, I plan to wash the knit top and have the skirt dry-cleaned.
2. The top was hacked from my TNT dress pattern, Butterick 6531, and was ready to sew with a full bust adjustment.
3. I stabilized the shoulder seams with Knit Stay Tape for added support.
4. The sleeve was borrowed from McCalls 5576 and fit well thanks to the gathered design.
5. The lightweight sweater knit (58% Cotton, 38% Tencel, 4% Spandex) makes this piece comfortable and wearable year-round.
Glen Check Cotton Linen Skirt
6. Because of the intricate glen plaid, I cut the skirt on a single layer to ensure the pattern matched properly.
7. I stabilized the pocket openings and zipper area with Knit Stay Tape.
8. The skirt is underlined with Egyptian Cotton in Optic White for added structure and coverage.
9. To keep the waistband from collapsing, I added rigilene boning in nine locations: the side seams, both sides of the zipper, center front, and midway between the center front and back. I cut the boning 1/8" shorter so it fits within the seam allowance, then stitched it to the inside of the waistband.
Because I used my TNT patterns, the sewing came together pretty easily. Cutting the skirt took the most time, but everything else moved along quickly, and I was able to finish in time for Easter.
