Cobalt 11oz Jersey Knit for a Special Occasion

Cobalt 11oz Jersey Knit for a Special Occasion

6th Aug 2026

I finished my dress for my cousin's 34th Pastoral Celebration in July. I used 11 oz Rayon Jersey Knit in cobalt and Burda Style 02/2013 #109, a pattern I'd already sewn as a top. I've always loved the asymmetrical neckline and thought it would make a beautiful sheath dress, so I simply lengthened the pattern since it was already fitted to me.

I lined the dress with black tricot, first hand-basting the lining to the front and back necklines, shoulders, and armholes, leaving the side seams free.

Next, add the neckline binding.

Sew the side seam in one continuous seam from the lining through the rayon jersey.

I topstitched the hem with double rows.

If you think rayon jersey is only for casual wear, think again! This fabric has a soft sheen and beautiful drape that make it a wonderful choice for special occasions.
