Navy Ponte Knit for Special Occasions

Kim says, "This is my first version of Burda Style dress #122 from the 6/2021 edition. I saw this originally posted by Sew Much Fabric and I knew I had to make it! I also purchased this amazing Navy Blue Ponte Knit which was absolutely perfect.

This dress caused me so much trouble!!!! It called for woven fabrics so I figured with a knit I would be safe not doing a muslin first. Thank goodness this fabric is so incredible and resilient because I had to rip out and expand every seam 1 inch for length. I had already added an inch to the bodice length but it wasn’t enough. The Europeans must be very tiny!!! At the very end of the project, I realized there was no seam allowance added to the pattern pieces which explains having to add 1 inch back in at each one! Oops!

When I realized that very late in the game, the rest of my problems with fit were at least explained. I also had to lengthen the right sleeve since it was about 1/2 inch shorter than the left- on purpose! I like mine flush with each other. Lots of basting and ripping, but I finally have my finished product!

And boy do I love this dress!!! I love the asymmetry of the hem and neckline. I love how it can be dressed up or down. I love how it is just a little bit sexy. All good stuff!

So I swore off Burda after this one, but given what I have learned I am sure I will try again!"
